Shake-to-SOS

Three sharp shakes trigger a silent SOS — even from a pocket or locked screen. No unlocking or tapping required.

Instant Torch

Full-screen white light plus camera flash for low-light walks — instant on, no menus to navigate.

Personal Alarm

High-volume dual-tone Web Audio siren with optional spoken voice warnings to deter attackers and attract attention.

Live Location Sharing

Real-time GPS broadcast via a shareable secure link — family can follow your position with no account or app install needed.

Safe Journey Mode

Set a destination and ETA; Athena tracks your route and auto-alerts contacts if you don't check in on time.

Evidence Vault

Discreet audio & video recording, location-tagged and uploaded to private cloud storage, protected by biometric lock.

Triple-Tap Recording

Tap anywhere on screen three times to silently start audio recording — no need to open the app. The recording uploads to your Evidence Vault with GPS location.

Incident Journal

A private, timestamped record of what happened — category, severity and location — secured by row-level security so only you can see your entries.

Fake Call

Schedule a realistic incoming call with a classic dual-tone ringtone to exit uncomfortable situations gracefully.

Disguise Mode

Athena hides behind a decoy screen — app icon, name and browser tab all change. Choose a banana bread recipe page (best for web) or a working calculator (best for the iOS & Android app). Type your secret PIN, then verify with fingerprint or Face ID to reveal the real app.

Safe Areas Map

Crowdsourced reports of harassment hotspots, suspicious activity, well-lit spaces and safe businesses, plus a one-tap nearest-hospital finder.

Support Hub

Curated UK, Scottish and Irish helplines and charities — domestic abuse, sexual assault, mental health and legal aid.

Safety Devices

Marketplace for rape alarms, GPS trackers, legal ID sprays and safety keychains — so you're never without physical protection.

Safety Circle

Invite trusted contacts to join Athena so alerts are guaranteed to reach them, plus generate and manage live tracking links to monitor loved ones' journeys and battery from one place.

Emergency Contacts

Add trusted people who receive your SOS alerts and journey check-ins, with per-contact alert type controls.

Steps we've taken to protect vulnerable women

  1. 1Built a free, no-barrier toolkit. Every safety tool — SOS, live location, evidence recording, helplines — is free with no paywall, so cost never blocks a woman in danger.
  2. 2Designed disguise mode. Athena hides as a recipe page (web) or a working calculator (app), so women in coercive or controlling relationships can access help without their phone raising suspicion.
  3. 3Added biometric app lock. Fingerprint or Face ID on launch keeps safety tools private if a phone is seized, borrowed or checked by an abuser.
  4. 4Enabled hands-free SOS. Shake-to-trigger and triple-tap evidence recording let a woman call for help or capture proof without unlocking or visibly using her phone.
  5. 5Protected reporter privacy. Safe Areas reports are anonymous, coordinates are rounded to ~50m, and descriptions auto-expire after 90 days — so no one can be tracked or identified.
  6. 6Curated trusted support. A Support Hub connects women to vetted UK, Scottish and Irish helplines for domestic abuse, sexual assault, mental health and legal aid — no searching required.
  7. 7Kept ads away from emergencies. Advertising and partner placements never appear during an active SOS, journey or alarm — a woman's safety is never interrupted for revenue.
  8. 8Consent-based authority sharing. Community safe/unsafe area reports are shared with local police and councils only when the reporter explicitly opts in — and only in aggregated, anonymised form — to support better lighting, CCTV and patrols without ever identifying anyone.
